Running a business is a whirlwind. Whether you are just starting out or have been at it for years, your administration is the heartbeat of your company. I know exactly how it feels when things get messy—the stress of a disorganized desk makes it hard to focus on the work you actually love.
The good news? Bookkeeping doesn't have to be a headache. When you lean on the right tools, it gives you the clarity to grow with confidence. Here are four of my personal favorite Odoo tricks that make my day! Hope yours too, from now on!
1. Seeing the big picture
Tired of clicking next to find a specific line? By default, Odoo shows 80 records. I prefer to see everything at once when I need to.
The trick: Click the number in the top right corner (where it says 1-80) and change that 80 to however many records you have, like 200 or 500.
Why I love it: You can scroll through your entire list of invoices or products in one go. It makes searching and scanning so much faster.
2. Updating in bulk
Updating items one by one is a total time-sink. If I need to change the same detail on a group of records, I do it all at once.
The trick: In the list view, tick the boxes for the items you want to change. You can then link multiple products to a specific revenue or expense account in a single move.
Why I love it: It ensures everything stays consistent and saves me from clicking back and forth through dozens of individual pages.
3. Filters that do the work for me
I don't like hunting for information. I want the most important data to find me instead.
The trick: Set a filter for something you check daily, like open invoices. Go to Favorites, select "Save current search," and click "Use by default."
Why I love it: Now, the moment I open my accounting, the unpaid bills are right there in front of me in the blink of an eye.
4. Magic drag and drop
Manual data entry is where mistakes happen, and frankly, it is boring! If you have a digital bill, let the system read it for you.
The trick: Drag and drop your PDF vendor bill directly into Odoo and let the OCR tool work its magic. It automatically identifies the vendor, date, and amounts.
Why I love it: I just have to do a quick double-check and click confirm. It turns a ten-minute task into a ten-second review.
